The Westfield Area Middle School presented their annual Winter Concert 

on Monday, December 16th, which consisted of the sixth grade beginning band, middle school jazz ensemble, and middle school concert band.

The sixth grade beginning band performed four selections: "Tidings of Joy" by Robert W. Smith, "A Christmas Suite" arranged by Eugene Magill, "Beethoven's Ninth" arranged by Paul Lavender, and "Celebrity March" by Larry Clark.  

The middle school jazz ensemble performed four selections: "Fat Burger," an uptempo rock chart George Vincent; the Gershwin jazz standard, "Embraceable You," arranged by Roy Phillippe; Neal Hefti's blues chart, "Cherry Point"; and an uptempo latin arrangement of "Cubano Chant" written by Ray Bryant and arranged by Mike Story.  Soloists included: Mitchell Klingbeil, Mia Fuehrer, Chloe Miller, Joe Solterman, Memphis Hinze, Gabe Akers, and Wil Stauffacher.  

The middle school concert band performed five selections, beginning with the majestic and march-like "Triumphant Overture" by Eric Osterling.  The band presented an introspective piece entitled "Into the Blue" by contemporary composer, Cait Nishimura, followed by two pieces from composer Randall D. Standridge's unBroken project: "Me (re:Affirmation)," a dramatic, melodic work; and "Blue Sky Horizon," an uplifting, exciting, and joyous piece.  The concert concluded with the holiday standard, "Winter Wonderland" as arranged by Eric Osterling.
